Delicious and Healthful Mocktails for Spring

mocktails

There is a significant health and fitness trend this year that we expect will be happily embraced by many people for a multitude of reasons. While sipping on a cocktail has often been portrayed as part of a sophisticated, fun, and extravagant lifestyle, drinking those alcoholic beverages may in fact be derailing the happy, healthy, positive way of living you truly desire. Skipping the alcohol doesn’t have to be hard. It’s easy and fun to substitute delicious and healthful mocktail drinks to reduce calories, and be healthier and safer too.

We want drinks that have so much flavor, we won’t miss the alcohol, and we want to drink them out of fancy glasses with fun garnishes too. The good news is that getting a daily dose of vitamins and minerals in a healthy and hydrating mocktail is easy in Spring when the markets are filled with produce in its prime!

For those who prefer savory flavors and for those who like some heat, consider a Virgin Mary. It’s easy to use your favorite recipe for a Bloody Mary, but without adding the alcohol. The basics typically include vodka, tomato juice, Worcestershire Sauce, black pepper, celery salt, Tabasco and lemon juice, but there are endless variations. Now, rim the glass by rubbing a cut lemon around it and then dipping it in kosher salt and celery salt or Old Bay seasoning, then add a celery stick or skewers of pickled vegetables or olives.

A classic Moscow Mule cocktail recipe uses vodka, ginger beer, and lime to create a refreshing cocktail. However, just mixing ginger Kombucha and fresh lime and pouring it over ice makes an alcohol-free, and gut healthy probiotic-filled glass of refreshment. Simply add lime slices and mint to garnish if desired.

A fresh berry lemonade looks oh so fancy and tastes oh so sweet. Simply muddle some strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or blackberries in the bottom of a glass. Then add a squeeze or lemon, a little sweetener of your choice such as stevia, monk fruit, agave, maple syrup or cane syrup, sparkling water and ice. Garnish with additional berries, lemon slices or even a fresh herb sprig.

Try making your own version of classic recipes adding fruits or flavors you enjoy and get creative. No matter the reason you can enjoy great taste, better health and fewer calories with fun mocktails this Spring.

There is one simple way to instantly elevate all of your drinks by using filtered water for making the best tasting mocktails. Minerals, chemicals, organic matter, and other contaminants can affect both the quality of the water that is used to make your drinks and any ice that may be added. Remember that the ice that is used in cold drinks is just as important and be sure to rinse all fresh produce and herbs with only pure, fresh filtered water.
